CHARLOTTE PROPERTY UNSUITABLE for NEW SCHOOL
The North Canton Charlotte property is unsuitable for construction of a new school building.
The 9.6 acre property is grossly under the 19.88 acres recommend by the state. Testing has confirmed property contaminated with industrial pollution! To read more about the reasons for oppositions, please click here.
The video included in our EPA information gives a very informative overview of the extensive investigative work that is ongoing at the former Hoover Company property regarding industrial pollution that exists both on and offsite in the heart of downtown North Canton.
The groundwater pollution that exists throughout the area, termed the “Hoover Plume,” extends offsite to Hillcrest Avenue to the west and north to 5th Street. These boundaries were identified in a Stark County Health Department resolution (Resolution #3-2002) that was enacted on December 11, 2002, for the purpose of protecting public health.
The Charlotte property, where the North Canton City School District proposes to build a new school for 988 Pre-K through Second Grade students, is partially within the boundaries identified in the Health Department Resolution.
Maps are used extensively throughout the video. Learn about your community. Click here for more information from the EPA.

First Course of Action for the District:
Our Group is proposing that the District rebuild on the much larger, UNCONTAMINATED 15.6 acre Northwood property much like what the District is doing at the Clearmount Elementary property on East Maple Street. (FYI – two new school buildings are proposed. A Pre-K thru 2nd Grade is planned at Charlotte. A Grade 3 thru Grade 5 is planned for the 14.94 acre Clearmount site).
Second Course of Action for the District:
Proceed as Superintendent Wendorf stated in a March 13, 2017, Repository story and purchase 19 acres north of the City which actually would be more centrally located as the school District extends nearly to Uniontown.
